AUDIT STANDARDS TRAININGS · BY ASG
Aviation Audit Standards Training Overview
Aviation organisations operate in a multi-standard compliance environment, with internal audit programmes typically required to cover multiple regulatory frameworks simultaneously: IOSA for airlines, ISAGO for ground handlers, EASA Part-145 quality audits for MROs, ISO 9001 QMS audits, ICAO safety oversight assessments, and national CAA compliance checks. Effective audit professionals need to understand how these standards relate to each other, where they overlap, and how to conduct efficient multi-standard audits.
ASG’s Audit Standards Training programmes develop competency across the full range of relevant aviation audit frameworks — providing both standard-specific knowledge and the meta-skills of audit planning, evidence evaluation, and finding management that apply across all frameworks. For specific audit preparation support, see our IOSA Audit Preparation, ISAGO Audit Preparation, and EASA Audit Preparation services.
Key Aviation Audit Frameworks
The primary aviation audit standards that aviation professionals need to understand include: IATA IOSA Standards Manual (ISM) — the airline operational safety audit standard covering 8 domains; IATA ISAGO Ground Support Certification Standards (GSCS) — the ground handling audit standard; ISO 9001:2015 — the international QMS standard applicable across all aviation sectors; ISO 19011:2018 — guidelines for auditing management systems; and EASA regulatory audit requirements applicable to Part-145, Air Ops, and other approved organisations.
Additional standards relevant to specific aviation sectors include: ICAO Safety Oversight standards (Doc 9734, 9859); ICAO Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme (USOAP) methodology; ACC3/RA3/KC3 EU Aviation Security Validation standards; and sector-specific standards such as JIG fuel quality inspection standards and CEIV Pharma certification requirements. ASG’s training programmes cover all of these frameworks — individually or in integrated multi-standard programmes.
The challenge in multi-standard audit environments is that each framework uses different terminology, different finding classification systems, different audit process requirements, and different corrective action expectations. A non-conformity in IOSA is different from a non-conformity in ISO 9001, which is different from a finding in an EASA NCA audit — and audit professionals who confuse these distinctions produce poor-quality findings and ineffective corrective actions.
ASG’s Audit Standards Training programmes specifically address these cross-standard differences, using comparative exercises and case studies to develop audit professionals who can navigate multiple frameworks confidently. For organisations managing concurrent IOSA and ISAGO programmes, our integrated training is particularly valuable in developing internal auditors who can manage both programmes efficiently.
Our Audit Standards Training Programmes
IOSA & ISAGO Auditor Standards Training
Our dedicated IOSA and ISAGO auditor standards training covers: ISM and GSCS structure and standard interpretation, audit planning and preparation, evidence collection and evaluation, finding classification (observation vs. finding vs. positive finding), finding statement writing, corrective action plan assessment, and audit report preparation. Available as separate IOSA (2-3 days) or ISAGO (2 days) programmes or as a combined 4-day IOSA/ISAGO programme for organisations with dual audit responsibilities.
ISO 19011 Audit Methodology for Aviation
Our ISO 19011-based audit methodology programme provides a comprehensive foundation in management system auditing applicable to aviation QMS, SMS, and regulatory compliance audits. The programme covers: audit principles, types and scope; audit programme management; conducting audits (opening meetings, document review, interviews, on-site verification, closing meetings); and audit reporting and follow-up. Tailored specifically for aviation contexts with relevant examples and exercises. Available as a 2-day programme.
Multi-Standard Aviation Compliance Auditor Programme
ASG’s flagship Multi-Standard Aviation Compliance Auditor Programme provides comprehensive training across all relevant aviation audit frameworks applicable to your organisation’s specific context. Programme content is customised based on the combination of standards relevant to your organisation (e.g., IOSA + EASA Air Ops + ISO 9001 for an EU airline, or ISAGO + QMS + safety audit for a ground handler). Duration: 3-5 days depending on scope. See also our IOSA Training and QMS Training pages.
Benefits of Multi-Standard Audit Training
Why Choose Aero Support Group for Audit Standards Training?
ASG’s audit standards trainers are IATA-certified auditors, ISO 9001 Lead Auditors, and experienced aviation compliance professionals who have conducted audits across multiple frameworks in 100+ countries. Our training is built on practical auditing experience — the programmes teach what auditors actually need to do, not just what the standards say.
We design training programmes specifically for your organisation’s audit portfolio — so an airline needing IOSA + EASA Air Ops internal audit training gets a programme covering exactly those standards, with exercises and case studies drawn from those specific frameworks. For complete audit readiness support beyond training, see our range of Audit Preparation services.
Auditing training teaches how to conduct audits (methodology, evidence evaluation, reporting). Audit standards training teaches the specific content of applicable standards (what IOSA requires, what ISO 9001 requires, what EASA regulations mandate). Effective aviation audit professionals need both: the methodology skills from auditor training and the content knowledge from standards training. ASG programmes cover both dimensions.
Yes. Multi-standard auditing is increasingly the norm in aviation organisations where resources are limited. ASG’s multi-standard programmes develop auditors who can plan and conduct audits across multiple applicable frameworks efficiently, recognising where standards overlap and where they diverge. The prerequisite is a solid foundation in the core audit methodology principles that apply across all frameworks.
Basic competency in a single aviation standard (e.g., IOSA internal auditor) can be developed in a 2-3 day intensive training programme plus supervised audit experience. Multi-standard competency requires additional training and practice. Most aviation organisations develop competent internal auditors within 6-12 months of structured training and supervised on-the-job audit experience.
IATA offers the Certified IOSA Auditor (CISA) qualification for IOSA auditors. ISO offers Lead Auditor qualifications (e.g., ISO 9001 Lead Auditor) recognized in the QMS domain. There is no single multi-standard aviation auditor qualification, but ASG’s training programmes provide documented evidence of competency development applicable to organisation-level qualification frameworks.
Yes. ASG provides training on ICAO safety oversight audit methodology (USOAP-based) for state aviation authority (CAA) inspectors and technical staff. Our ICAO oversight training covers the ICAO Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme (USOAP) framework, state safety programme (SSP) development, and safety oversight system establishment.
