Aviation QMS Training Overview

Quality Management System (QMS) training equips aviation professionals with the knowledge and practical skills to understand, implement, and audit against quality management requirements applicable to their organisation. In aviation, QMS training spans multiple applicable frameworks: ISO 9001:2015 for organisations seeking international QMS certification, IATA IOSA and ISAGO quality standards for airlines and ground handlers, EASA Part-145 quality system requirements for MROs, and national CAA quality management requirements.

Effective QMS training develops both knowledge and application skills: participants should be able not just to recall quality standards but to apply them in daily work, conduct meaningful internal quality audits, identify root causes of quality failures, and implement effective corrective actions. ASG’s QMS training programmes are designed around these practical competencies. For QMS implementation and consulting support, see our Quality Management Systems consulting page.

QMS Standards Applicable to Aviation

ISO 9001:2015 provides the globally recognised framework for QMS across all industries including aviation. Its seven quality management principles — customer focus, leadership, engagement of people, process approach, improvement, evidence-based decision making, and relationship management — align closely with aviation safety management principles. Many aviation organisations pursue ISO 9001 certification to demonstrate QMS maturity to customers and regulators.

Aviation-specific quality requirements build on the ISO 9001 foundation: IOSA ORG standards require documented quality management systems with quality audits and corrective action processes. EASA Part-145 requires an independent quality monitoring system with a Quality Manager reporting directly to the Accountable Manager. ISAGO GSCS includes QMS requirements for ground service providers. Training programmes should cover both the ISO 9001 foundation and applicable sector-specific quality standards.

A key dimension of QMS training is the transition from compliance-focused thinking to improvement-focused thinking. Many aviation QMS programmes effectively manage regulatory compliance audits but fail to drive continuous improvement in operational quality and safety performance. Effective QMS training develops the capability to use quality data proactively — identifying trends, conducting risk-based audit planning, and engaging management in meaningful quality reviews.

ASG designs QMS training that goes beyond checkbox compliance, helping organisations build quality cultures where quality awareness is embedded at all levels. For aviation audit-specific quality preparation, see our Quality Control Solutions and IOSA Audit Preparation services.

Our QMS Training Programmes

ISO 9001:2015 Foundation & Internal Auditor Training

Our ISO 9001:2015 Foundation course provides participants with a thorough understanding of ISO 9001 requirements and how to apply them in an aviation context. The companion Internal Auditor programme develops practical audit skills: audit planning, conducting interviews, evaluating evidence, writing non-conformity reports, and assessing corrective action effectiveness. Both programmes are available as 1-day (foundation) and 2-day (auditor) classroom or virtual instructor-led courses.

Aviation Quality Auditor Programme

Our Aviation Quality Auditor programme is specifically designed for internal auditors in IOSA-registered airlines, ISAGO-compliant ground handlers, and EASA Part-145 MROs. The programme covers: applicable quality standards for your specific aviation sector (IOSA ISM ORG, ISAGO GSCS, Part-145), risk-based audit planning, CAPA methodology, finding classification, and audit report writing — all in an aviation operational context. Available as a 2-3 day intensive programme.

Quality Management for Operational Managers

ASG provides quality management awareness training for operational managers and supervisors who are not quality specialists but whose teams are subject to quality requirements. This practical programme covers: what the QMS requires from department heads, how to support internal quality audits, how to develop effective corrective actions, and how quality performance connects to safety performance. Available as a 1-day workshop or 4-hour online module. See also our QMS consulting service.

Benefits of Professional QMS Training

Why Choose Aero Support Group for QMS Training?

ASG’s QMS trainers are aviation quality professionals who design and audit QMS programmes for airlines, MROs, and ground handlers across 100+ countries. Our training combines ISO 9001 methodology with deep knowledge of aviation-specific quality standards, providing participants with training that is immediately applicable to their regulatory environment rather than generic quality theory.

We provide QMS training that integrates with SMS principles — helping organisations understand how quality management and safety management work together rather than as separate compliance activities. For complete QMS implementation support beyond training, see our Quality Management Systems consulting and Quality Control Solutions.

IOSA ORG standards require airlines to have a documented quality audit programme with trained internal auditors. IOSA auditors assess both the documented training programme and evidence that quality personnel have received appropriate training. ASG’s Aviation Quality Auditor programme is specifically designed to meet IOSA ORG training requirements and can be used as documented evidence of auditor training.

EASA Part-145 requires an independent quality monitoring system with a Quality Manager but does not specifically require ISO 9001 certification. However, ISO 9001:2015 internal auditor training is highly beneficial for Part-145 quality personnel as it provides a rigorous audit methodology framework applicable to MOE and procedure compliance auditing. ASG’s Aviation Quality Auditor programme covers both ISO 9001 and Part-145 specific requirements.

ASG’s QMS training durations: ISO 9001 Foundation (1 day), ISO 9001 Internal Auditor (2 days), Aviation Quality Auditor (2-3 days), Quality Management for Operational Managers (1 day/4 hours online). Multi-day programmes can be split across separate training events to minimise operational disruption. Online self-paced modules are available for foundational content.

Yes. Many aviation organisations benefit from integrated QMS/SMS training that covers the relationship between quality management and safety management, integrated audit approaches, and combined CAPA processes. ASG provides combined QMS/SMS training programmes particularly suited to organisations seeking IOSA certification, where ORG standards cover both SMS and QMS requirements together.

Yes. ASG provides QMS training specifically designed for ground handling companies subject to IATA ISAGO quality standards. Our ISAGO quality auditor training covers the GSCS Management System section requirements, ground handling quality audit procedures, and corrective action management. For ISAGO-specific preparation beyond training, see our ISAGO Audit Preparation service.
